This old fashioned French vanilla ice cream is smooth, creamy, and timeless. Made with a custard base of milk, egg, sugar, and vanilla, then blended with whipped topping, it creates a luscious frozen dessert. OLD FASHIONED FRENCH VANILLA ICE CREAM

Ingredients

  • ½ cup sugar

  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch

  • ¼ teaspoon salt

  • 1 egg

  • 2 cups milk

  • 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract

  • 1 cup nondairy dessert topping

Directions

  1. Mix sugar, cornstarch, and salt in the top of a double boiler.

  2. Add egg and stir well. Slowly stir in milk.

  3. Place over boiling water and cook, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens slightly, about 5 – 6 minutes.

  4. Remove from heat, add vanilla, and cool.

  5. Pour into pan and freeze until just firm.

  6. Remove to a chilled bowl and beat with a mixer.

  7. Whip dessert topping separately. Fold frozen mixture into whipped topping.

  8. Refreeze for 2–3 hours before serving.
